The mission of the Hong Kong Baptist University Language Centre is to enhance HKBU students’ ability to communicate effectively in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua), and to develop students’ knowledge of one or more further languages (including French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Mandarin (for non-native speakers).
In pursuing these goals, the Language Centre designs and delivers a variety of language courses/ programmes, and offers language activities/services including:
- Credit-bearing courses
- Supplementary courses
- Writing and Speaking Enhancement Services
- Workshops
- Contests and activities
- Independent language learning opportunities in our multi-media language laboratories
The Language Centre aims to provide a coherent and pedagogically sound curriculum to foster skills of self-expression in all the languages it teaches, as well as provide outstanding facilities for additional self-learning. In the pursuit of excellence, the Language Centre promotes staff development so as to assist teachers in making informed decisions about teaching and learning. To promote learner-autonomy, the Language Centre aims to help students become more aware of their own role in the language learning process.
