The Department of English Language and Literature is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Arts. It aims at providing quality liberal arts education to young people through its various degree programmes. The uniqueness of the Department lies in its multi-disciplinary character as reflected in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that it offers.

Our staff takes an innovative and humanistic approach to programme design and programme development. In this area, students are invited to participate in programme review and programme planning. In addition, students are encouraged to involve themselves in co-curricular activities such as, but not restricted to, student society committee work, peer mentor programme, academic week planning, overseas exchange programmes, and overseas work attachment scheme. In line with our university’s Whole Person Development philosophy, such a balance of key and co-curricular activities allows students to develop leadership, independent thinking, communication skills, and organisation abilities.
