The Department of Music was re-established as the Academy of Music and transferred to the School of Creative Arts.

2021

Two programmes of The Chinese Writers' Workshop, Hong Kong Writers-in-Residence and Chinese Writers-in-Residence, were inaugurated.

2020

The Chinese Writers' Workshop was founded. Its Distinguished Chinese Writers Series was inaugurated.

A Hybrid Admission Scheme was implemented in September.

The four-year PhD Programmes was implemented in September.

The Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Creative Industries began to be offered in September.

The Department of Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies was established in September.

The B.A. (Honours) in Religious Studies was restructured and retitled as B.A. (Honours) in Religion, Philosophy and Ethics.

The Gender Studies Concentration, co-offered with the Faculty of Social Sciences, began to be offered in January.

The Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology (JAS) and Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute (SHI) were housed under the Faculty of Arts in March.

The M.A. in Ethics and Public Affairs began to be offered in September.

2013

The M.A. in Literary and Comparative Studies began to be offered in September.

2012

The B.A. (Honours) in Creative and Professional Writing was inaugurated.

The Department of Humanities and Creative Writing was established in September.

The B.A. Programme (Broad-Based Admission) was implemented in September, with six degree programmes.

2009

The B.A. in Liberal and Cultural Studies began to be offered in September.

2008

The M.A. in Translation and Bilingual Communication began to be offered in September.

2007

The Centre for Chinese Cultural Heritage was established in September.

2006

Courses on Liberal Studies and the M.A. in Ethics Studies began to be offered in September.

2005

"The Dream of the Red Chamber Award: The World’s Distinguished Novel in Chinese” was launched.

In September, the Department of English Language and Literature, in collaboration with the Department of Education, offered the B.A. (Honours) in English Language & Literature and B.Ed. (Honours) in English Language Teaching.

2004

The 1st Lion Rock Classical Poetry Reading was held.

The 1st Lion Rock Poetry Reading was held.

The International Writers’ Workshop and Writer-in-Residence programme were founded.

The Centre for Sino-Christian Studies was established.

The 1st Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition was held.

The Centre for Translation was established.

The M.A. in Chinese Literature, Language and Culture was inaugurated.

1993

The M.A. in Music was inaugurated.

1992

The B.A. (Honours) in Humanities added a concentration entitled ‘Literature and Professional Writing’.

The M.A. in Language Studies was accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. The programme was offered in the following academic year.

The Centre for Applied Ethics was set up.

The Electro-Acoustic Music Centre, established by the Department of Music and Fine Arts, was inaugurated in May.

A Translation Workshop was set up by students in March.

1990

In September, the B.A. (Honours) in Humanities and the B.A. (Honours) in Translation programmes began to be offered.

New MPhil programmes were offered: Chinese Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Linguistics, Music and Fine Arts, and Religion and Philosophy.

In September, the renovation of Oen Hall was completed. The Faculty of Arts returned to the Waterloo Road campus.

1989

The B.A. (Honours) in Music began to be offered in September.

1988

The Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences programme was offered. The Major programmes included Chinese Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Geography, History, and Sociology.

1987

The Faculty of Arts moved to the temporary campus at Renfrew Road.

1975

The C.S. Tse Memorial Hall was inaugurated in August. The main building was named Oen Hall Building (where the Faculty of Arts is located).

1972

The Department of Music and Fine Arts was established.

1971

The Department of History and Geography and the Department of Sociology and Social Work were transferred to the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The Faculty of Arts consisted of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Department of English Language and Literature, the Department of Fine Arts, and the Religion and Philosophy Programme.

1967

The Faculty of Arts consisted of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Department of Foreign Language and Literature, the Department of History and Geography, and the Department of Sociology and Social Work.

1962

The Department of Religion and Philosophy and the Department of Chinese Language were established.

1961

The Faculty of Arts was established.
